Our Approach

Elder with staffThe Citadel Alzheimer’s/Dementia Assisted Living Center has developed a specialized approach that will address the needs of individuals who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer and dementia. Our secure setting ensures that all residents in the facility are safe and accounted for on a 24-hour basis.

The Citadel is located at 431 Quincy Ave. in Pueblo Colorado. The location includes a city block that is fenced and a 15,000 sq. feet of livable space is designed to allow access to the patio areas.

At present time, it is estimated that 2.3 million individuals in the United States are diagnosed with Alzheimer. According to statistical reports, 360,000 new cases are reported each year. It is reported that the numbers will double every twenty years. The Citadel’s goal is to develop an Assisted Living environment that will shy away from the practice of allowing the individual patients to remain in their rooms to the practice of developing an environment that will focus on emphasizing movement and stimulating the individual patient.

The approach will involve music, interaction with animals, an activity 3 times a day, and an open environment that will allow the individual patient to have access to outside areas where they could water and grow plants. A social worker will develop a case study on the individual patient that will address family interaction and give a brief history that will identify the needs, personality make up, and the likes and dislikes of the individual patient.

The Administrator of Operations will be Ms. Chery Lucero. Ms. Lucero currently owns and manages the Columbine chateau in Pueblo West. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge in the operation and supervision of an assisted living center. Ms. Lucero is a Registered Nurse of ten plus years with a majority of experience in long-term care.

The Agency Director will be Mr. Al Gurule. Mr. Gurule’s business background includes four years of employment as a Senior Analyst in Economic Development with ABT Associates Cambridge Mass. He is also a social worker with 50 plus years of experience.
